Streufert Cup '07

This year's Streufert Cup went very well for Wisco, and how could it not with the team filling nearly half the regatta. All four vans had a quick drive up, with a stop for some food at Culvers. We all got into Minneapolis before 11, and prepared for a day of sailing to follow.

On Saturday morning, after about a half hour drive to Wayzata, we all geared up for what felt like a chilly day on Lake Minnetonka. The temperature that morning was in the mid thirties. After the usual series of events, we started the races with a gusty breeze out the of south at around 10 mph. The round robin began, with all teams racing each other, including many Wisco vs. Wisco races. The temperature gradually climbed up to about 65, and at about 4:30 the races concluded, and we departed. After a short drive (for some of us), we enjoyed a home cooked meal and a relaxing night.

Sunday started off with warmer temperatures, but lighter wind. The final four was cut short in order for everyone to get to race, which went on until the last race started minutes before 1pm. At the end of the day, it seemed that many of us new to team racing, enjoyed it, and found the tactical aspects of it to add another layer to our love for collegiate sailing.

Some of the memorable events of the weekend were:
- The guy from Northwestern breaking through the pier and taking a header into the water, arising from it with sea weed strew about himself.
- Dober freezing all night, only to wake up next to Brian using a spare blanket as a pillow.
- Laura donning a dry suit to get her bailer out of two and a half feet of water.
- Running around a ping pong table, doing a 360 for every double hit, and reversing direction for every dropped ball.
- And many more I'm sure I'm forgetting. Or missed. Now comment them so we can all reminisce.

The results of the regatta are as follows:

1st - Wisco Red
... (if anyone has the results, can you comment them here or email me and I will append them)

GO GO Wisco!
